‘Purple Rodents’ (2022)
In 2022 during my first semester of university, I created a series of paintings of my pet rodents. The installation was in response to the theme ‘Everyday’ and was about capturing my pets as they were at the time, as rodents often don’t live long. I decided to paint them in purple and presented them as free standing paintings within the installation space.
“Purple Rodents is a personal and meaningful collection of detailed paintings that turn the ordinary into the extraordinary.
The series is painted in purple to represent my personal connection to the colour, as it appears so frequently in my everyday life and makes me feel comfortable- from the clothes that I wear to how I decorate my home.
The time and care that I put into each piece represents how precious the subjects are to me and reflects the idea that sometimes we need to pause and take the time to appreciate the significance and beauty of aspects of our everyday lives that we may otherwise overlook or take for granted.“
